Mr. Epstein brings to NewCap Partners more than 25 years of international investment banking and venture management experience, including P&L responsibility for both major business units and startups. His diverse client bases include small, midcap and private high-tech and life science companies, as well as global multibillion dollar corporations, private equity, and venture capital funds. For the last six years, he has focused his efforts on M&A activities in the advanced materials, healthcare/life science, and Cleantech/water areas with an increasing emphasis on US/China and US/China/Japan interactions. Ken’s transaction experience encompasses selling and buying companies, negotiating global marketing and production alliances and joint ventures, as well as providing advisory services for strategic planning, acquisition, and valuation.
With an extensive background in materials/biomaterials and renewable energy sources, Ken also advises clients aggressively seeking expansion opportunities into new markets about the acquisition of companies that have technologies and/or materials that can be used broadly in life sciences, industrial manufacturing, and more recently, in water and renewable energy markets. Recently completed Cleantech/water projects include: a 40 million Euro financing deal for European/South African thin film solar production plant; multimillion dollar equity investments in two water treatment companies; and a large biomaterials JV. Prior to joining NewCap, Ken founded Epstein & Associates, a Northern California based consulting firm specializing in strategy development and implementation of mergers, divestitures, acquisitions, and growth of both small companies (<$50 million) and divisions of large companies. Ken started his global, multi-functional career with the Dow Chemical Company. After several years in R&D and Sales, he spent the majority of his Dow career as a corporate venture manager in the material/biomaterials/nanotechnology, energy (fuel cells, solar, lignite), water, and construction industries. He also managed businesses in electronics packaging, precision tools, and construction, and negotiated a variety of joint ventures and strategic alliances in North America, Europe, and Asia. During several stints overseas, Ken led the startup of electronics packaging & construction materials businesses in Singapore/Malaysia and Brazil/Argentina. Ken holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rhode Island and an MBA in International Finance from the University of Michigan. |
