Chi and his China energy and cleantech network are working with NewCap Partners, Inc. to identify and help clients find financial and strategic partners for M&A, equity investments, financings, licensing, and strategic alliances. With many China cross-border and worldwide expansion successes, he has been active in the areas of Chinese government relations, business development, sales, and as a company founder.
In 2010, Chi formed an international strategic advisory team and obtained funding for a China-based water cleantech company from a major venture capital group in Silicon Valley. He also helped numerous multi-international enterprises obtain restricted licenses and enter those markets in China, including those in the oil and gas, CDMA telecommunications, pharmaceutical, prime real estate, investment banking, and security industries.
Between 2004 and 2010, Chi served as a business advisor to many SOEs (Sinopec, China National Petroleum Corporation, SinoChem, China Investment Corporation, etc.) to develop and implement their expansion strategies in the U.S., Brazil, Spain, and the Middle East/North Africa, including M&A transactions to acquire leading industrial technologies from Norway and the Netherlands. He is particularly adept at closing the cultural gap during negotiations and has a high success rate of closing deals between SOEs and multi-national companies. He has also developed and implemented a specialized business model to help small and mid-size businesses enter the China market, an approach requiring a budget of only $600K and reaching break-even in 12 to 18 months. In 2006, as a representative of China Sino-Steel and the China Ship Disposal Association, Chi established an exclusive partnership with the Louis Berger Group for a $300 million ship disposal project with the Maritime and China Ship Disposal Associations.
Between 2003 and 2006, he helped Hong Kong’s CNC Technology, the second largest engineering, procurement, construction (EPC) water company in China, merge with Siemens China for a profit of $60 million. Chi also established a successful sales partnership with Air China for Air Berlin Plc, a German charter airline, as well as provided technical support on the implementation of an Airline Revenue Accounting System for the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China. He also helped Messagesoft, Inc., a California company, form a partnership with the Chinese Ministry of Police to promote the company’s branded products in China as the most effective brand for spam blocking, virus protection, and overall internet security solutions. With access to key players in most of the SOEs and their supporting government groups, in 2003, Chi identified the best Netherlands-based joint venture partner for Petro Petroleum, a China SOE, and supported the negotiations to finalize the partnership and ensure that the cooperation was successful. In 2002, working closely with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, he and the team he assembled at the Ministry of Commerce provided the total support needed to help an international telecom company enter the China market. In 2001, Chi founded Wotoo.com, the most recognized and biggest internet café company in China with more than 100 branches in major cities, and served as its President from 2001 to 2004. Wotoo.com created a new trend of online gaming in China and in 2002 was the first host of the World Cup Cyber Games held there.
Chi has Bachelors and Masters degrees in Information Technology from Southern New Hampshire University and a Diploma in Hotel Management from Les Roches in Bluche, Switzerland.
